Our Story

Getting to whidbey

Whidbey is our favorite corner of the Pacific Northwest! 40 miles north of SeaTac airport and 25 miles north of downtown Seattle, the island is accessible to both local and out of town attendees.

Recommended Airports

We recommend you fly into SeaTac (SEA; 40 miles south of Whidbey), or Paine Field (PAE; 5 miles south of Whidbey).

Getting on the Island

There are two ways to get onto Whidbey Island: you can drive onto the island via Fidalgo Island and Deception Pass (at the northern tip of Whidbey), or take the Clinton/Mukilteo Ferry (at the southern tip of Whidbey). The mainland terminal is listed on Google Maps as 'Mukilteo Ferry Terminal'; the Whidbey ferry terminal is listed on Google Maps as 'Clinton Ferry Auto Terminal'. We recommend taking the ferry: the ~20 minute journey through calm Puget Sound waters will drop you off just south of Langley, where all wedding festivities will be held. Please be advised, there are often long lines to board the ferry on summer weekends. Please factor ferry timing into your travel schedule! Ferries run every 30 minutes (at the hour and half hour) from 5am to 1am during the summer months. For more information, please visit https://wsdot.wa.gov/

If you do not plan on renting a car, the Whidbey SeaTac shuttle will take you directly from SeaTac airport to one of multiple stops on Whidbey Island.

Staying on Whidbey

There are no large hotel chains on Whidbey Island. We recommend booking accommodations through AirBnB, VRBO, or other similar vacation rental websites. A few inns and B&amp;B's in the area are noted below. There are more traditional lodging options on the mainland, including in or near Mukilteo. All wedding festivities are scheduled in Langley, which is on the southern end of the island. Any lodging option south of Coupeville should have you within a 30 minute drive of all wedding festivities. Taxi and rideshare services (e.g., Uber &amp; Lyft) on Whidbey Island are available but limited.

Enjoy whidbey's charm

Whidbey offers a blend of history, nature, and small-town charm. Step back in time at Fort Casey, where you can explore the remnants of a 19th-century naval base turned state park, and visit the Colonel’s House (a many-time vacation spot for the Furrow family). Wander the trails and art galleries at Greenbank Farm, or stroll through Downtown Coupeville, one of the state’s oldest seaside towns, filled with quaint shops and waterfront restaurants. Take a sunset cruise on the historic Suva sailboat, a restored wooden vessel that sails once per day through the Juan de Fuca Strait. In Downtown Langley, boutique storefronts and Puget Sound vistas invite a laid back afternoon, and nearby Meerkerk Gardens offers peaceful woodland trails and vibrant rhododendron blooms.

Visit Whidbey's Wineries

Whidbey is home to a handful of wineries that showcase the islands distinctive white varietals, including Siegerrebe and Madeleine Angevine. We recommend visiting Spoiled Dog Vineyards, Dancing Fish Vineyards, and Comforts of Whidbey Winery (they host live music on Sunday afternoons!).

Hike Whidbey's Trails

Summer on Whidbey is typically sunny, with temps in the high 70's and low humidity - great weather for getting out and exploring the island's natural beauty! There are many hiking trails across the island (you really can't go wrong), but below are a few of our favorites: Ebey's landing, Admiralty Inlet Natural Area Preserve, and Deception Pass State Park. Shorter, relaxed trails can be found at Greenbank Farm Trails and Meerkerk Gardens Forest Preserve. Many of these hikes offer views of the Puget Sound - July is peak whale watching season, so keep your eyes peeled! For those who prefer "water hikes," kayaks are available for rental out of both Coupeville and Langley.

Visit our favorite eateries

There are many wonderful restaurants on Whidbey - below are just a few of our favorites:Enjoy brunch at Flower House Cafe at Bayview Garden (near Langley) or The Braeburn Restaurant (downtown Langley). For a quick lunch, consider Rocket Taco or Fare Market in Freeland. Splurge on a prix-fixe, farm-to-table dinner at Orchard Kitchen. Of the many restaurants in downtown Langley, we recommend Saltwater Fish House &amp; Oyster Bar, Prima Bistro, Ultra House, and Langley Kitchen.

Explore off-island

Whidbey is a launching point for many great day trips! Walk onto the Coupeville - Port Townsend ferry for a short ride to Port Townsend. The ferry drops you off on Water Street, the main drag of this historic waterfront town. Everything is accessible by foot - no need to take your car! Enjoy coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, and small port-town charm! We recommend planning a half-day for this adventure. Also accessible from the Coupeville - Port Townsend ferry line is the Olympic Peninsula. Hike in Olympic National Park, Enjoy a water-front lunch at Lake Crescent Lodge, or enjoy live music, cider, and wood-oven pizza at Finnriver Farm &amp; Cidery. We recommend a full day (or longer!) if you want to visit the Olympic Peninsula. Please note, the Coupeville-Port Townsend ferry requires reservations to drive on. If you plan to visit the Olympic Peninsula, be sure to schedule your ferry ride in advance on <a href="https://secureapps.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Reservations/Vehicle/default.aspx" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://secureapps.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Reservations/Vehicle/default.aspx</a> Head north to the San Juan Islands: walk onto the ferry (no need to take your car!) at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal (north end of Whidbey) and explore any of the San Juan Islands. We recommend exploring Friday Harbor: rent an e-bike or a scooter from Susie's Mopeds and cruise around the island's 48-mile loop, visiting lavender farms, light houses, vineyards, and hiking trails along the way! Be sure to drop into The Market Chef or Kings Market before leaving Friday Harbor to grab snacks for the road. We recommend a full day for this adventure.

Childcare

We recognize that many of you will be traveling to attend our wedding and you may be traveling with small children. Your children are welcome to attend our welcome party, however we do intend for our wedding ceremony and reception to be adults only. We would love to support you in finding childcare that you are comfortable with on our wedding day. If you are concerned with finding a childcare solution that works for you, please reach out to us (text or call Libby or Truit directly), and we will do our best to connect you with resources &amp; solutions! Parents (or soon-to-be parents) of infants - please reach out to us. We are working with our venue in hopes of providing an on-site care location for infants aged 1 - 12 months. We would love to better understand your needs and help accommodate you and your little one in a way that allows you to participate fully in our celebration!
